Smartcom feels very strongly about being proactive in the community and one of our core values is "Responsibility towards the community in which we operate". Smartcom has committed to many fundraising initiatives within the community over the years and are presently focused on 3 main projects: Angels in the Dust In May 2007, the Smartcom team took up the challenge to give Angels in the Dust orphanage a make-over. The Smartcom team drove out to Magaliesburg on the Friday and began the revamp early on the Saturday morning. This included painting the different rooms, insulating the roofs and redoing floors. Alongside this project a collection was done. Clothing, toys, food, books and toiletries were just some of the hundreds of items collected for this orphanage.
Jo Slovo Squatter Camp close to Coronationville is an ongoing project and so far in 2007 Smartcom has distributed clothing, blankets and Easter eggs to the children of this community.
The Empilweni ('Place of Life') HIV Clinic in Coronationville has started over 1,000 children on anti-retrovirals since the commencement of the government's ARV rollout programme in April 2004. Smartcom assisted with the opening of the first HIV/AIDS ward in the clinic as well as various charity drives.
