All the highlights from the Apple iPhone 8 launch
Last night (12 September 2017) Apple CEO Tim Cook treated the world to a showcase of what Apple has in store for us over the coming months. As per usual, it was a glamourous affair with the Apple gadgets being the real stars of the night. In case you did not follow our updates on Twitter, here are the highlights from the Apple 2017 launch.
The iPhone X, with the “X” referring to the Roman numeral for the number 10, was launched in celebration of the 10 year anniversary of Apple phones.
The phone has a 5.8-inch OLED screen. Apple has removed the home button to create space for the large display. Instead of a home button, the iPhone X uses facial recognition software, called Face ID, to unlock the phone and verify Apple Pay.
The facial recognition software is also used for the new feature called animoji.
The iPhone X will be available in 64GB and 256GB.
The animoji feature on the iPhone X is basically emojis on steroids. Instead of just sending a plain old emoji, you can allow the emoji to speak on your behalf.
You can choose from various animojis, like a unicorn, chicken or fox. Record your message and send. Not only does the animoji record your voice, but it will also mimic your facial expressions when you record the message.
The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus
Of course, this was one of the highlights of the show. Although some people probably expected an iPhone 7S, Apple decided to skip the S, and go straight to the 8.
The new Apple devices have an all-glass design, and measure in at 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch respectively. According to Apple these devices are made from the most durable glass ever in a smartphone.
The iPhone 8 comes with a 12MP camera and can be charged remotely.
Apple Watch 3
The Apple Watch 3 is the first Apple smartwatch that can work independently from the iPhone. Probably the biggest update on the Watch 3 is the fact that it is LTE-enabled. You can use the smartwatch to make calls or browse the internet.
